Welcome

A Reactor is a GRP yacht designed by Paul Whiting (1952-1980) in 1968.

The first was launched in 1969, and the last in 1987. The original cost (complete) was $6,100. From 1974, Mark II craft were built, the differences being the addition of a skeg and higher toe-rail.

A total of 77 Reactors are known today. They are excellent seaworthy yachts fast becoming a classic as the first GRP yachts built in New Zealand, and about the only class yacht still raced as such.

The Reactor has a very active Owners Association who:

  • encourage interest in Reactors by their owners and help maintain the value of the yachts.
  • provide opportunities for Reactor owners and friends to meet and share their interests
  • produce a monthly magazine for financial members.
  • promotes racing and cruising of Reactors
  • runs a programme of social events for members
  • encourage non-Auckland owners to benefit from their Reactor ownership
    run the Association successfully.

This website contains many articles published in past magazines and as you can see we have a very lively membership. If you wish to become a member then email us at info@reactors.org.nz Note: you do not have to own a Reactor to become a member.
